Wednesday, June 2, 2010 - On Wednesday June 2nd, 2010 at approximately 0957 hours the Aberdeen Fire Department was alerted for a HazMat Incident: Ammonia Leaking from a Tanker Truck at the intersection of Long Drive/Technology Drive on Route 22. The tanker was discovered close to the end of Technology Drive.
Paramedic 292 went en route immediately, followed by Engine 211.
Paramedic 292 was the first unit to arrive, where they found a police officer near the tanker, the medic unit staged away from the scene, Engine 211 arrived minutes later, command was set up by Battalion Chief 2-1 Dale Budnick Sr in the Park/Ride at Technology Drive/Route 22.
The Hazmat Team had been alerted by EOC at the time of initial dispatch.
Rescue 251 and Engine 212 and Ambulance 291 also arrived. Engine 512 transferred to Company 2 House 1 during the incident.
Crews worked with the HazMat Team in mitigating the incident, Medic 292 also transported two police officers to an area hospital. Crews worked to stopped the leak and shut the valve off. No firefighter injuries on scene. The truck had been traveling from Philadelphia to Virginia.
Route 22 between Beards Hill Road and Technology Drive was closed down for several hours.
