On Thursday evening August 26, the Aberdeen Fire Dept was asked to provide standby coverage for Station 12, Aberdeen. Engine 212,  along with Susquehanna Hose Quint 535 and Newark Engine 10-5 provided the coverage.

On Friday August 27, Engine 213, along with
Susquehanna Hose Tower 531, Abingdon Engine 414 and Bel Air Engine 315 provided the coverage.

It was our priviledge to cover Station 12's area as they paid their respects to Fire Inspector Doug Farrington.


The Aberdeen Fire Dept would like to extend our deepest condolences to our Brothers as the mourn the loss of two of the own, Past Asst. Chief Ron McNutt and Active Duty Fire Inspector Doug Farrington. 

They will be missed.

On Wednesday July 14th, 2010 at 1859 hours the Aberdeen Fire Department was alerted for a Building Fire at 110 South Philadelphia Boulevard.  Chief 12-2 APGFD (Smith) was immediately on scene, where the address was changed to 116 South Philadelphia Boulevard (Szechuan Inn), Chief Smith advised smoke/fire showing from the roof area from a roof vent.

Engine 211 was the first unit to arrive,deploying a 1 3/4 handline to Side Alpha of the building, finding heavy smoke and fire conditions in the kitchen area.  Engine 212 was the next unit to arrive, followed by Engine 514 (Susquehanna Hose Company), where they laid from the next closest hydrant approximately 900' of 5" hose.

Engine 213/Engine 512/Truck 1231 (APGFD) were the next units to arrive assiting the interior crews in extinguishment and opening up.

Batallion Chief 2-1 held the South Philadelphia Boulevard Command (D. Budnick)

The Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause which is still under investigation.

On Tuesday July 13th, 2010 at approximately 0516 hours the Aberdeen Fire Department was alerted to respond two engines to 1207 Glenview Drive for the 2-Alarm Building Fire.

Engine 211 and Engine 212 went enroute within a few minutes after the alert.

Engine 211/Engine 212 arrived on scene and assisted various companies in defensive operations on scene, defensive operations were ordered on scene due to the partial building collapse, as well as the fuel load and large number of vehicles inside of the structure.

Engine 211 operated a 2.5' line as well as a 1' 3/4 line, and later overhauled to get to the main bulk of the fire with other crews.

Engine 212 also assisted crews on scene in various operations.

Engine 211 cleared the scene at 0645, Engine 212 cleared the scene at around 0900 hours.

On Friday July 9th, 2010 at 1052 hours the Aberdeen Fire Department was dispatched for a Building Fire in the area of 912 Walker Street.

Engine 211 was the first unit enroute, Engine 211 arrived on scene to find a working shed fire with smoke showing to the rear of 907 Harlan. Engine 211 stretched a 250' pre connected handline.

Truck 1231 (APG) and Engine 512 (Susquehanna Hose Company) arrived on scene and provided manpower. Crews used 447 gallons of water and 1 gallon of Class A foam to extinguish the fire.

Crews from Engine 512 and Truck 1231 overhauled wall's and roof area. 

No injuries to firefighters or civilians on scene.

The cause of the fire was determined to be careless discarded smoking materials.

Command Captain 2-1 (Steven Hinch)

On Wednesday July 7th, 2010 the Aberdeen Fire Department was alerted for an Investigation of Smoke in the Area of Lynn Lee Drive/Lark Drive.

Brush 241 went enroute immediately after alert, and was the first to arrive on scene to find a working fire.  Engine 211 went enroute minutes after the initial dispatch and assisted on scene with containment and extinguishment.

Captain 2-1 (Steven Hinch) had the Command.

On Tuesday July 6th, 2010 at 0929 hours the Aberdeen Fire Department was alerted for respond an engine to the scene of a Dwelling Fire at 3003 Snake Lane.

Engine 213 went enroute within minutes, where they were advised by Harford County EOC that the caller was reporting smoke in the basement.

Engine 113 (Level) and Engine 213 arrived on scene, to find the fire had been extinguished by occupants on scene.  Crews checked for extension and then cleared the scene.

The fire was started after a Comcast employee had drilled into the floor and caused a spark to catch some insulation on fire, which was extinguished with a fire extinguisher.

On Sunday July 4th, 2010 the Aberdeen Fire Department participated in the Annual City of Havre de Grace 4th of July parade.

Engine 211 and Rescue 251 participated in the parade.

The Aberdeen Fire Department was awarded with three awards, Best Appearing Pumper , 2nd Best Appearing Department, 2nd Best Rescue.

The Aberdeen Fire Department is mourning the loss of Past Ladies Auxiliary and Auxiliary Member Ruth Storey on Friday July 2nd, 2010.

Ms. Storey was a member of the Aberdeen Fire Department for 40 years, highlighted by her contributions to the Ladies Auxiliary, and hard work at various fundraisers such as Christmas Street and various other activities put on by the Aberdeen Fire Department and the City of Aberdeen.  Ms. Storey could always be found in the kitchen helping out and stopping by the firehouse on a weekly basis cleaning and assisting the members with daily activities in the firehouse.  She will greatly be missed by all of us.

Ruth Jewell Storey, age 79 of Aberdeen died Friday, July 2, 2010 in Lorien at Riverside. Born in Wilmington, DE the daughter of the late Howard and Ruth Ware. Beloved wife of the late Horace Lee Storey. Cherished mother of Wayne Storey and wife Debie of FL, Diane Sterbak and husband Fritz of Havre de Grace, Bruce D. Storey of Aberdeen, Sandra Peregoy and husband Michael of Bowley's Quarters and the late Horace S. Storey. Dear grandmother of Michael, Lee, Aaron and Brian Storey, T.J. Behrens, Tara Baldwin, Amber, Brooke, Michael II, and Matthew Peregoy. Loving great-grandmother of Chase and Connor Storey and Juliet Behrens. She is also survived by sister Barbara Powell of NJ. Ruth was a proud member of the Aberdeen Fire Dept. for over 40 years. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, a American Heart Assoc. volunteer and retired from APG as a EKG Technician.
 

The family will receive friends in the family owned Tarring-Cargo Funeral Home, P.A. of Aberdeen on Wednesday, July 7 from 4-8pm. A funeral service officiated by Pastor Donnie Smith will be celebrated Thursday, July 8 at 11am in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Harford Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Assoc. 415 N. Charles St, Baltimore, MD 21201.
 

A wake will follow the funeral service on Thursday morning at the Aberdeen Fire Department, Main Station located at 21 North Rogers Street. 

On Thursday July 1st, 2010, at approximately 1610 hours the Aberdeen Fire Department was alerted for a field fire at 996 Beards Hill Road af the Home Depot.

Brush 241 and Engine 211 went enroute immediately, arrived on scene to find the field and mulch on fire near the Alpha/Delta corner of the building.

Crews pulled booster lines off and extinguished the fire.

On Saturday June 12th, 2010 the Aberdeen Fire Department opened up new House 3.

An official dedication will take place at a later date.

Engine 213 responded on its first call from the new station, due for a Dwelling Fire at 403 Bostonian Way in Bulle Rock Estates in Havre de Grace.

On June 10th, 2010 at 0657 hours the Aberdeen Fire Department was alerted for an Automatic Alarm at 419 Washington Street. 

Engine 211 went en route, where they were advised that the alarm company was advised smoke detector activation on the 2nd floor.

Engine 211 arrived on Side Alpha, observed smoke coming from the 2nd floor, immediately requested a box assignment.  Lt. Diering was met on Side Alpha by the homeowner, who advised she had just gone out for a minute and arrived back home, all occupants were confirmed out of the dwelling.

Engine 211's crew deployed a 1 3/4 preconnect line to the 2nd floor Side Delta, found the bulk of the fire in an upstairs bedroom.  Tower 231/Truck 1231 crew arrived and assisted with ventilation and checking for extension.  The fire was knocked in approximately 5 minutes.  Damage to the dwelling on the whole 2nd fire with smoke damage and fire damage to the one bedroom.

Command was initially held by Lieutenant Curtis Diering Jr. later transferred to Chief 2 (Hinch)

Chief 2 also requested the Maryland State Fire Marshal to the scene, the cause of the fire is believed to be discarded smoking materials.

Units cleared the scene at around 0755 hours.

On Wednesday June 9th, 2010 the Aberdeen Fire Department was alerted for a motor vehicle accident at Oakington Road/Pulaski Highway.

Ambulance 292 was the first unit enroute, followed by Rescue 251/Engine 211 and Ambulance 291.

Units arrived on scene find two vehicles involved,  exact location was on North Post Road just prior to Oakington Road on the Swan Creek Bridge with a total of (4) patients, 2 of which required to be extricated from the vehicles.

Rescue 251's crew worked to extricate the trapped occupants, additional medic units were requested due to the severity/number of patients.

A total of (4) patients were transported all to local area trauma centers.

Other units on scene Medic 591, Cecil County Station 7 (Water-Witch) also transferred to Company 2 House 1, while the transports took place to standby for other calls in the City of Aberdeen.

On June 8th, 2010 at approximately 1357 hours the Aberdeen Fire Department was alerted for a Dwelling Fire at 330 Paradise Road.

Battalion Chief 2-1 was immediately on the air, where Harford County Division of Emergency Operations advised, first caller you could hear the smoke detector activation, second caller advised that the dwelling was on fire.

Engine 211 was the first unit en route, followed within minutes by Engine 215.  Engine 211 arrived with a working fire in the attic, crews pulled multiple lines and made an aggressive interior attack.

Truck 1231 (APG) arrived and was instructed by command to go to Side Charlie of the structure and assist.

Initial Command was held by Captain Steven Hinch, later face to face transferred to Battalion Chief Dale Budnick, Operations- Captain Steven Hinch

Other units operating on the scene at this time, Engine 512 (SHCO), Engine 515 (SHCO), Tower 231, Engine 113 (Level-transfer to Company 2 House 1) later came to the scene, Paramedic 291

Command also requested BG+E Gas and Electric to the scene as well as the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

On June 7th, 2010 at approximately 0023 hours the Aberdeen Fire Department was alerted for a Dwelling Fire at 3 Grant Street.

Medic 291 was the first unit en route, followed within minutes by Engine 211.  Medic 291 was the first unit on scene, advising of light smoke showing from Side Alpha.

Engine 211 arrived, deployed a 1 3/4 preconnect line, found an air conditioner that had fallen out of the window and set the room on fire.  Crews worked to quickly extinguish the fire and hold the damage to minimal damage.

No injuries to citizens or emergency personnel on scene.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal was requested to the scene as well.

Battalion Chief 2-1 (D. Budnick) had the Grant Street command.
